The 2010 Abigail Fillmore Gold Coin
began the fourth year of release for the series created to honor the First Ladies of the United States. She served as First Lady from 1850-1853 during the Presidency of Millard Fillmore.The obverse of the coin, designed and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, features her portrait. On the reverse is an image of Mrs. Fillmore placing books on a library shelf. She had acquired several hundred books to begin the White House Library. The reverse was designed by Susan Gamble.
The Abigail Fillmore First Spouse Gold Coins were released by the United States Mint on March 18, 2010. The maximum authorized mintage was reduced to only 15,000 across proof and uncirculated versions. Final sales tallied 3,489 uncirculated and 6,140 proof coins.
