Letitia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coin
The 2009 Letitia Tyler Gold Coin marked tenth release of the First Spouse Gold Coin Program. She was the first wife of President James Tyler. She served as the First Lady from 1841 to 1842 until she passed away.The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Letitia Tyler designed and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. The reverse shows her with two children on Cedar Grove Plantation. She successfully ran this plantation, allowing her husband to focus on his political career.
The Letitia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coins were released on July 2, 2009 and limited to a maximum authorized mintage of 40,000. The US Mint recorded sales of 8,315 across proof and uncirculated versions.
